Mamushy Origins Part 1. Hike Through Fushimi Inari, A Magical Matcha Moment.

The Origins of Mamushy.

Hike Through Fushimi Inari, A Magical Matcha Moment in Kyoto, Japan. Part 1.

During our unforgettable journey across Japan, one adventure stood out as both physically demanding and deeply spiritual: hiking the sacred trails of Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine in Kyoto. With its legendary thousands of vibrant red torii gates, steep stone steps, and ancient forest trails, this iconic site left us breathless, in every sense of the word.

Fushimi Inari Taisha - Where History Meets the Divine

Located at the base of Mount Inari in southern Kyoto, Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Japan’s most important and visited Shinto shrines. Founded in 711 AD, it is dedicated to Inari, the god of rice, prosperity, and success.

The Hike - A Sacred, Steep Climb Through Time

Taking on the Fushimi Inari hike is more than just an athletic feat, it’s a mindful, almost meditative experience.

As we climbed higher:

  • The forest thickened, filled with bamboo and moss-covered stones
  • Fox statues watched silently from hidden corners
  • Small sub-shrines and offering altars appeared along the path
  • Panoramic views of Kyoto unfolded at the Yotsutsuji intersection

Instead of following the crowd, we created our own off-beat trail, venturing deep into the untamed bamboo forest, surrounded by silence and filtered sunlight. Every step felt like walking through ancient history.

A Magical Matcha Discovery

After the descent, under the scorching heat, we were drained, body and soul. That’s when we stumbled upon something extraordinary: a tiny matcha shop tucked into the forest, run by an elderly lady.

She whisked the matcha slowly and rhythmically, adding water drop by drop with ceremonial grace. The setting was surreal.

  • Old wooden chairs
  • A tranquil view of a small lake
  • Trees gently rustling around us

We were served.

  • Iced matcha latte, unlike any matcha we’d ever tasted before
  • Granola with yogurt and fresh fruits

This unexpected oasis became a moment of pure mindfulness, where nature, flavor, tradition, and silence all met in harmony.

From That Moment… to Mamushy

That moment of tranquility, inspiration, and simplicity stayed with us.

It became the seed of Mamushy, a lifestyle and travel-inspired journey rooted in:

  • Spiritual exploration
  • Mindful living
  • Ancient tradition and modern beauty

We wanted to capture and share the essence of that matcha moment: peaceful, grounded, unforgettable.
